Supremely Bright Future for Houston Bar Building on Main

Offices and erstwhile ground-level bar: The Houston Bar Center Bldg (2014 pic)
Supreme Bright Houston LLC. That's the name of the new owner of the Houston Bar Center Building at 723 Main that does not house the Houston Bar Association, which hails from the Heritage Plaza on Bagby these days, but faces a supremely bright future as an upscale Europeanesque hotel as may be gathered from recent reporting by the HBJ and the Houston Chronicle. A name change may be in order in due time.

Harris County real estate records reflect that the building, located on Block 80, South Side of Buffalo Bayou (S.S.B.B.), was acquired from 711-723 Main, L.P., a Texas limited partnership, in February 2016. HCAD records indicate that the structure was built in 1920. According to emporis, however, construction of the 10-floor commercial office building started in 1916 and ended in 1917, which makes the office building almost a hundred years old. Land and improvements were appraised at close to $8 mil in January 2016, more than $2.5 mil higher than the previous year.

Springbok

Springbok, a South African concept and lounge, occupies restaurant space at 711 Main, and also features sidewalk-side patio seating. Reserve Bar & Lounge was once the tenant in the corner space of Main at Rusk.
