The Shepherd Plaza Shopping Center: Sitting pretty, but mostly empty - and waiting, waiting, waiting ... for revitalization

July 29, 2015 Update: Sylvester Turner has set up shop on the Greenbriar side of the shopping center to to run his mayoral campaign. Mayor Parker previously used the spot for the same purpose.
Address: Sylvester Turner for Mayor - Campaign HQ 2160 Portsmouth St, Houston, TX 77098

THE SHEPHERD PLAZA SHOPPING CENTER

Much of the art-deco style Shepherd Plaza shopping center bordered by Greenbriar, Richmond, and Shepherd/Farnham has been vacant for years. A pity it is, for population density in the area is rising with multiple luxury apartments complexes having been completed, or nearing the pre-leasing or leasing stage.

The historic property is situated in a prime location, and even has a considerable amount of parking space around the multiple buildings, which includes restaurant/nightclub/bar spaces.

Larry Plotsky endeavored to get the word out that "Shepherd Plaza is back in business", but the reality betrays the claim. One of the back-in-biz signs has even collapsed in the interim.

Businesses that have closed in recent years: Stag's Head (in 2015), Le Peep, Dance Studio on corner of Richmond and Greenbriar.

Still open: Tuesday Morning, Freebirds Burritos, Amy's Icecreams, Select Physical Therapy;  Cactus Music, Winston's Fitness in the building to the West fronting South Shepherd / Farnham. A couple of pubs and other businesses in the Sandman Building on Richmond in the NE corner.
